Presented by Helen Fletcher:
The Athletic Equestrian
It is a universal truth that nothing improves riding, like riding. Research is proving to us however something many of us have known for some time, that unmounted training can, and does help to create more harmony between horse and rider.
I believe that all riders, regardless of their discipline or level, should aim to be the athletic equivalent of their horses. This requires a committed approach to fitness, health and wellbeing that encompasses the correctly prescribed exercises, programmed by a qualified professional, to address the individual needs of the equestrian athlete. Riding is a unique sport, and there are many demands on the riders body, there is no one size fits all approach, no magic bullet, no gadget that will deliver the results each individual rider needs.
I encourage you to make a start today and feel the benefit that even a small daily dose of movement can do to improve your balance, mobility, stability, symmetry, and strength. To begin to create a more harmonious connection between you and your horse.
Click on the link below to be taken to my website to access three small sequences. These sequences will give you an opportunity to experience some of the ways in which I work.
I look forward to meeting you at Equitana 2024 in my two interactive sessions, where we can greater explore, through a movement practice, the needs of the rider as an athlete.
