Sporting Horses can be of any size and breed and are extremely fit, fast and agile while also having a strong mind that can concentrate under extreme pressure while racing.
Races are conducted with 4 horses racing in their own lane going head to head to be first across the line.
Horses in the qualifying finals will collect points based on their finishing position. As every point is crucial, the competitors will be putting it all on the line in every race.
Come and see all the non-stop action that is Sport Horse Racing and be amazed by their skill, stamina and speed.

Top level Barrel Racing is another feature at EQ MEL2024!
Barrel racing is an exciting sport where the winner is determined by just thousandths of a second. No matter how talented the horse is, and how skilled the rider is, just one minor error can be the deciding factor in final placings. The winner is determined by who can run the barrel-racing pattern in the fastest time. The rider’s horsemanship skills, the horse’s mental condition, and the horse’s athleticism are all very crucial to providing a good time. Three barrels are placed in a triangular pattern, the rider must ride around each one, and whoever has the lowest time, wins.
Find out a little more about the nuances of what makes a top barrel racing run, before being amazed at the sheer speed as the competition really comes into flight.

Eventers too will get to showcase their sport, often described as the triathlon of Equestrian Sports. In this condensed version we bypass the dressage and competitors will tackle a challenging course combining cross country fences and show jumps with an optional ‘joker’ thrown into the mix to spice things up – all in the Kubota Australia outdoor arena! The Eventing Masterclass, presented by Tim Price, later in the day is a perfect opportunity to learn from a master of the sport.
