Skeletal anatomy, painting on a horse body
Do you really know what you’re looking at in a horse?
See how skeletal anatomy informs us as artists and horsepeople. The importance of knowing your anatomy is crucial.
This class will cover the structures of the head, neck, shoulder and chest, with a real skeleton to guide the painting of the bones on our live model – a gorgeous Australian brumby
This will be followed by addition of muscle structures of our subject.
Yvette will address the lie of skin over bone or muscle and how it affects light and form, to enhance understanding of anatomical elements as a horseperson or artist.

Painting a Brumby portrait
Bringing a horse to life on paper. Watch as a big piece of beautiful art paper is transformed onto a lifesize portrait of a brumby.
Learn the steps Yvette takes to map out her subject to ensure anatomical accuracty, so that the painting looks like her model.
In this lesson Yvette will be working with oil pastels over a textured paper and will demonstrate the most effective techniques to ensure bright colour and strong form, so that the subject leaps of the paper.
See the process of taking a simple drawing to the next level with colour and how to use light and dark to create powerful form and movement – to bring the subject to life.
This is an extended class at the end of the day to allow for additional interaction.
