Globetrotting TWOTH – Meet the teams

Flinders Greentree  and Priscilla Oberreiner

Flinders Greentree has been around at EQUITANA for years, starting as a young trainer on the rise. He popped up at 15 to become the youngest-ever winner of the Brumby Challenge at EQUITANA in 2018 and replicated that a few years later when at 18 he was the youngest to win the trainers’ challenge at the Man From Snowy River Festival.

It is the Snowy River Festival that connected him with his TWOTH Mentor, Priscilla Oberreiner originally from The Netherlands, who herself is the 2024 Man from Snowy River Trainers Challenge Champion and has many connections to EQUITANA.

After a stint working up north at Hodgson Downs Station in NT, Priscilla returned to Europe spending time with both Tristan Tucker (2019 EQUITANA Auckland Star Presenter) and Will Rogers (2024 Dressage Star Presenter) who set her up with strong foundations for her Horsemanship methods but it is Tom Wilougby who refined her training and horsemanship methods!

Now firmly back in Australia, and having connected with Flinders, they share very similar training philosophies and mindsets when it comes to working with horses.

Flinders’ Brumby Challenge EQUITANA win was the start of an exciting journey for this young talent. Very early on he was told by Netti Byrnes that if he dedicated his life to horses and worked hard while staying true to himself and to the love of horses, he would be able to achieve almost anything.

Seems it was good advice, and Netti has been right by his side throughout, just as she will be at EQUITANA, cheering him on. “I think that’s been key to my success in this industry so far,” he says.

It was after his Man From Snowy River Festival win that he was able to follow his dream of starting and training horses in a full time business. “This enabled me to support my passion of creating my own team of liberty horses and do performances to inspire the next generation while continuing to strive for better horsemanship.”

Flinders has now started and re-trained more than 250 horses. “My aim is always to set a horse up for a lifetime of success with its owner in whatever field they wish to follow.” He figures his “calm, gentle and effective way of gaining the trust, confidence and respect from his horse” will stand him in good stead in TWOTH.
