Your horse wants you to be kind to yourself

Presented by Tanya Mitton:

Your horse wants you to be kind to yourself

‘Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you are right.’
Henry Ford

Have you ever wondered why it is so much easier to have faith in others?
We don’t have issues believing that others are successful, but often doubt our own abilities.
We spend more time encouraging others and less time supporting ourselves.
We overlook the mistakes made by others, yet we hold on to our own mistakes for years.

What would happen if you would treat yourself the way you treat others?
If you were kind, encouraging and forgiving to yourself?
Do you think you would feel better? Smile and relax more often?

How would this impact your riding?
I think we both know the answer to that……

So, let’s start by remembering the good rides. Just remember that ride that makes you smile just thinking about it.
That’s the ride you want to think off before you get on your horse.
That’s the feeling you want to feel when you are starting your lessons.
Starting a ride with the good thoughts and the great riding memories will create more good rides for you and your horse.

Big smiles and focusing on how much you have learned and how far you have come will help you to relax and your horse will thank you for it.
No matter where you are at in your riding, you have already come so far. It’s time to celebrate that!!!
Each time you give your horse a treat to reward him, treat yourself with some kindness too: “I am doing a great job and I am so proud of myself”

Being kind to yourself will release your body from tension held by doubt and negativity.
Your horse can feel that tension when you sit in the saddle but also by the way you hold your lead rope, by the way you brush him and most of all, in the way you breathe.

Being kind to yourself changes your breath. When we can see the good outcomes, we respond with relief. Relief is reflected in a sigh. A sigh tells our horse that everything is ok.
Never underestimate the power of your thoughts and the effects they have on your riding and your connection with your horse.
Happy riding everyone
